Rio de Janeiro is one of Brazil’s most internationally recognized cities and a major cultural, scientific, and economic hub in South America. Located on the southeastern coast of Brazil, the city combines a unique natural landscape with a strong tradition in higher education, research, and technological development.

With a population of approximately 6.7 million inhabitants in the city proper and over 13 million in the metropolitan area, Rio de Janeiro is the second-largest metropolitan region in Brazil. The city hosts several leading universities, research centers, and technology-driven institutions, playing an important role in national and international scientific collaboration. It has a long-standing presence in engineering, aerospace, metrology, automation, and applied sciences, supported by strong academic–industry interactions.

The city is served by two major airports: Galeão – Tom Jobim International Airport (GIG), the main international gateway, and Santos Dumont Airport (SDU), which provides frequent domestic connections. Rio de Janeiro offers a comprehensive urban infrastructure, including a broad range of hotels, public transportation options, and services suitable for international conferences and scientific events.

The symposium will take place in September, a period characterized by mild and pleasant weather, with typical temperatures ranging from 18°C to 26°C, making it a comfortable time of year for professional activities and urban mobility.

Beyond its academic and technological relevance, Rio de Janeiro is known for its cultural diversity, vibrant urban life, and iconic natural scenery, including beaches, mountains, and historic landmarks. The city hosts several universities, research centers, and technology-oriented institutions with activities in engineering, applied sciences, and related technological fields, supporting research and scientific collaboration.
